Fisherman Magazine Update

If you’re looking for a break from your own local summer doldrums, you might want to consider what some of the nearby party and charter boats are doing. In addition to bigeye and bluefin, the offshore grounds along the Jersey Shore offer shots this month at cod and pollock, well worth the long steam east. Of course, if summer fluking has been tougher than usual out of your particular harbor, you might want to consider heading up to the Raritan which continues to produce weekly reports of 10-pound plus doormats. In the surf, lighten up for kingfish which can offer quick bag limits and fun action on light tackle outfits; jetties from Southern Ocean County to Cape May are also yielding more triggerfish and sheepshead as we head into August. Some bridge, sod bank and bulkhead casters have been fishing under cover of dark for short stripers throwing topwaters and plastics, while along the Delaware coast it’s been sand crabs and dark bucktails along the rocks at night. A few weakfish around regional waters too, could be worth a trip with plastics or bucktails down that old street end you used to fish for trout in years past!
