Fisherman Magazine Update

For Fisherman subscribers wondering how they might go about winning the Dream Boat Contest, the best possible strategy may have arrived in the form of gnashing teeth and yellow eyes. The bluefish invasion continues from the coast of Delaware up along the Jersey Shore, with a manic bite still going on in Manasquan and Barnegat inlets. These are lean, mean gators in the upper teens and even low 20’s, crushing plugs and poppers with impunity; they’ve even found their way up the sweetwater side of the Mullica as far as the Parkway Bridge. Striper action still good on the Raritan and up the Delaware River as well; so good on the west side of the state that some feel it could provide a great run of fish from the rips at Cape May north along the Jersey Shore come late May into early June. Many Delaware Bay boats begin sailing for drum this weekend – weather permitting – and we expect to get more reports of big boomers by next week’s report, while weakfish action remains a tight-lipped, Central Jersey thing right now. Best bet this weekend to put two on the Dream Boat board, get on the bluefish blitzes at Barnegat or Manasquan, and turn to plastics from Barnegat south in the back for a chance at a May tiderunner.
