Looking forward to next week with some 70 degree weather. We will be getting our first batch of bloodworms sometime in the beginning of the week. Got the first batch of fresh bunker but only will be getting that as it is available. Other than that our baits are all up to date getting a fresh batch of frozen baits in last week. Hoping some warm weather will land the first striper of the season. But so far only catfish have been hitting in the river. Most of these fish have been 1 to 3 pounds and have been hitting nightcrawlers, shrimp, chicken livers and chunked eels the best.
The upper river has been high and off color all week with the rains. But one customer has been fishing Byran, the walk bridge at Bull’s Island and New Hope wing dam catching smaller catfish and a walleye here and there. Minnows and white and chartreuse grubs working best.
Penn Warner really turned on this past week. Plenty of perch hitting minnows and jigging spoons. Mixed in have been a few bass, pike, crappies and pickerel. Core Creek has been fair for perch and crappies in the lower part of the lake with some bigger bass hitting crankbaits, spinner baits and plastic worms in the upper end of the lake. John and Robin spent 4 hours at Noxamixion catching on 36 inch catfish just before heading home. They think this fish was over 20 pounds and was picked up with a live minnow. One other fisherman was up on Saturday fishing 8 hours only catching a crappie. A couple guys fishing Magnolia picking up smaller bass with plastic worms. Fall’s Township a few bass and pickerel hitting crankbaits and plastic worms along the shoreline. Several nice catfish hitting bunker and chunked eels off haunted Lane of the Neshaminy Creek.
South Jersey has been one of the best places to head this time of year. Lou fishing the sand pits with minnows has been catching some nice yellow perch. Steve on Union caught a bunch of 12 to 13 inch crappies with minnows and wax worms. Eric fishing Batso Lake did nothing on Saturday but headed down to the spillway of the lake catching 11 pickerel 10 to 13 inches. These fish were all caught on spinners. Small lake outside Wildwood one fisherman picked up 17 bass on Sunday all with 4 inch Slider worms. These fish were all 6 to 10 inches. Richie picked up one 4 pound last week with a 4 blade spinner bait. He has also been catching 2 to 3 pickerel each trip out. His buddies fishing the Egg Harbor river have been doing fair with perch and pickerel fishing minnows, grass shrimp and twister tails. These guys are also looking for their first striper. Salem cove some good numbers of white perch and catfish have been hitting nightcrawlers and minnows. These guys have been looking for bloods to catch that first striper.
Well that is all I have this week. Lets hope warm weather will bring better reports. Again please check out your rods for broken guides. Now it will take 2 weeks but when we get busy it make take much longer. It takes Helen 6 nights to get the finish done after I have time to wrap the guides. Also a great time to get fresh line on those reels so you are rigged up and ready when that first fish is caught.
