The longest stretch of the year’s shortest month is coming to a rapid close – which means the back bay striper and winter flounder seasons in New Jersey are just days away with the official opener on March 1. The state’s blackfish season comes to a close at the end of the month, though party boats are still pressing east in search of cod, pollock and ling on the offshore grounds. Throughout much of the Central and South Jersey back bays, grass shrimp and bits of bloodworm are scoring white perch, so there’s certainly enough action to keep you busy through this mild weekend ahead. Big news comes from Milton, DE where the state record largemouth bass was hit this weekend on a Strike King Bleeding Shad Spinnerbait at Wagamons Pond. Congratulations to A.J. Klein for 11-pound, 10-ounce monster hawg; speaking of which, be sure to check out the hawg pond this weekend at the Greater Philadelphia Outdoor Sports Show – stop by The Fisherman’s booth number 114 to pick up your free gift for new and renewing subscriptions.
